Safe and Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources

The Safe and Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources (GESSMin) research group at the University of Vigo is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to the sustainable exploitation and management of natural resources, with an emphasis on the use of mineral resources and rocks in all types of industrial processes, respecting the principles of the circular economy and ensuring technological development. GESSMin has laboratories for rock mechanics, mineralogy, artificial vision, cultural heritage conservation and cartographic engineering.

The group was created in 1993. In 2005, it was recognised by the University of Vigo as a reference group and, since 2007, the Regional Government of Galicia has included it among the consolidated groups of competitive reference.
